Reading Comprehension (40 points)

Question Number One: (20 points)

Read the following text carefully and complete the tasks below:

Your comfort zone is, as the name suggests, the area where you feel comfortable. We all have one, whether we know it or not: it’s the set of routines and known abilities that make us feel safe because we’re confident that we can manage and are unlikely to be challenged by anything unexpected or worrying. Obviously, staying inside your comfort zone has many benefits, especially at times when you’re feeling under stress.

On the other hand, we’re often told in ‘self-help’ books that it’s a good idea to do things that are outside our comfort zones. In fact, many studies have shown that an important factor in helping people feel positive about themselves is the feeling that they are developing and making progress in their lives. You won’t reach your full potential if you only do what you know you are able to do. We all want to improve ourselves, for example by learning something new, becoming more creative or getting fit.

Unfortunately, people often get stuck in their comfort zones and don’t feel able to try different things. There are various possible reasons for this. They may be afraid of failing or unsure how to begin. Many people think ‘This is the way I am and I’ll never change’, using this as an excuse for not trying something new. Whatever the reason may be, it’s sometimes necessary to force yourself to do something you’d rather not do. Once you’ve made the effort, though, the door to new experiences will be open and you’ll probably wonder why you thought it was a problem.

Many young people have a dream job that they hope to achieve in the future. In today's world of work, some of the most popular career choices include becoming an IT programmer, a doctor, or a graphic designer. These careers attract young people because they offer good career prospects, opportunities for creativity, and financial stability. At the same time, each job comes with its own disadvantages, which must also be considered.

One of the most in-demand careers today is that of an IT programmer, who creates software, websites, and applications. This job is highly rewarding, as technology continues to grow, making IT programming a job with strong employment opportunities. However, being an IT programmer means spending long hours in front of screens, some health problems and finally the field requires constant learning.

A doctor is another common career choice, as it allows people to help others while earning a high income. Although becoming a doctor requires many years of study, the effort is worth it due to the respect and stability the job offers. On the other hand, doctors face high levels of responsibility and must handle stressful situations, such as life-and-death decisions.

A graphic designer, on the other hand, is perfect for creative individuals who enjoy working on artistic projects. Even though some graphic designers may have a low income when starting, their earnings can increase as they gain experience. However, the field is highly competitive, and many designers struggle to find stable jobs.

Choosing a career is not just about passion but also about being able to make a living. Some people follow their fantasy jobs without considering financial stability, which may lead to disappointment. Others neglect their true interests and choose jobs only for the money. The best option is to find a balance between passion, job security, and financial success.
